Towards a psychological and neurobiological integration

Abstract |
The present paper presents a review of the psychological and neurobiological aspects associated to the development and maintenance of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Main facilitating factors of the onset of PTSD, cognitive and psychophysiological aspects, and neurobiological structures and systems involved in the development and maintenance of PTSD are also reviewed. Main theoretical models both from psychological and neurobiological perspectives are also taken into account. Finally, it is highlighted the importance of integrative models which allow the joint analysis of data provided by current research.
