A new therapeutic procedure, the eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

Since 1980, when the posttraumatic stress disorder was first included in the DSM-III, it generated a growing interest and lots of studies proliferated about its etiology and treatment. With the first procedures arose the first problems. A new procedure, the eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) seemed to be the solution to such troubles. But the initial enthusiasm was followed by several new questions which darkened again the picture.. In this study, the EMDR procedure is first described. Then some considerations proposed up to date, about EMDR are presented.
