Perceived stress and coping of the illness in oncologic patients

Abstract
The aim of this work is to study the ways of coping used by 79 oncological patients and which kind of psychosocial variables are related. Sociodemographic and clinical variables were also collected. The results showed different relationships between quantity of social support and frecuency of use to global active coping and "Count your blessings". In the other way, the satisfaction with social support is associated with frecuency of use of "Emotional Repressed" and "Blamed others" ways of coping. Sex and age variables appaaired as a predictors of different ways of coping. Finally, to strategies were predicted by stress: "Positive Thinking" and "Religiosity". Results are discussed attending importancy for adaptation to illness and intervention programmes development.
