Historical keynotes on anxiety

In the present paper an overview on the evolution of the concept of anxiety is delineated, focusing on the contributions of the main authors who treated such topic along the time. In this review the following contributions are addressed: The 19th century contributions of Kierkegaard, Morel, Brissaud or Kraepelin, the origins of psychoanalysis by Freud, basic orientations from a dynamic point of view (Janet & Stekel), learning theories (Watson, Pavlov, Skinner, Wolpe, Mowrer, Spence or Taylor), phenomenological tradition (Golstein, Rogers, Maslow), personality psychology (H.J. Eysenck, M.W. Eysenck, Gray), and situationism and interactive view of anxiety.
