An interpersonal analysis of anxiety and depression: Similarities and differences in interpersonal circumplex

Author
Abstract
The objective of this study is to describe and compare the interpersonal behavioural styles of persons with high levels of anxiety and depression, using the interpersonal circumplex derived from the Interpersonal Adjectives Scale (IAS, Wiggins, 1996). Significant differences were found in the interpersonal behaviour styles of those who reported high levels of anxiety and those who reported high levels of depression. However, there were no differences between persons with high scores on depression and anxiety-depression, and the control group. Although more investigation is necessary, these results suggest that the interpersonal behavioural style can help us to differentiate between people with anxiety and depression symptoms.
