Adaptation and validation of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support

Author
Abstract
The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support is a questionnaire developed to measure people’s levels of perceived social support related to three different sources: family, friends and significant others. Previous studies, employing different samples, indicated that it was a psychometrically sound instrument. The current study attempted to extend the initial results using a Spanish sample of 803 students. The results confirmed the good psychometric properties of the Spanish version of this scale . In addition, it was studied the relationship between perceived social support, hostility and coping style, refereed to social support seeking. Results showed a direct relationship between perceived social support and coping style and an inverse relationship between hostility and perceived social support.
