Control perception, treatment observance and physical rehabilitation

Author
Abstract
This article presents the results obtained in a study carried out with 158 patients who had undergone physical rehabilitation in 4 hospitals in the province of Alicante. The aim of this study was to compare how cognitive factors are related to the treatment observance as well as to the state of health assessment. The outcome evaluation was assessed according to the point of view of both doctors and patients. Of the cognitive variables used, results show that perceived health competence is a good predictor of outcome results and outcome expectancies are an appropriate predictor of compliance in rehabilitation treatments. For future studies in the health psychology field we therefore propose to assess cognitive variables in their different levels of specificity as predictors for both the observance and the outcome of treatments.
