Occupational stress: theoretical back-ground and intervention framework

Abstract
Occupational stress, in its negative aspect, is one of the most dangerous problems for workers and their enterprises. But, these bad consequencies of distress do not mean more attention about it. In 1962, French & Kahn designed a procesual model to explain stress in the organizations, in spite of it, few programs to control distress in organizations have been developed. In this paper, it has been reviewed occupational stress field: (1) its definition and several important models of occupational stress by an interactive perspective, considering both contextual and personal aspects; (2) ways to assess occupational stress (checklists, inventories and administrative data); (3) stressors and main outcomes that influence in occupational stress; (4) an approach to design interventions to reduce occupational stress
