Work-family conflict as a source of stress: The modulator role of attributions

The aim of this paper is to investigate how health state attributions can modulate the relationship between the work-family conflict—understanding the conflict as a source of stress and the physical and psychological discomfort. The sample was composed of 110 workers who lived with a spouse/partner and/or children. The Spanish version of the Muncer, Taylor and Ling (2001) "Causes of health" Scale was used as a measure of health attributions. Different hierarchical regression equations have been used in order to put the presented hypotheses on approval. The results show that both external and internal attributions are modulator variables between the work-family conflict and the physical and psychological discomfort. Attributions of control and stability were not found to modulate this relationship. The practical implications of these results are analyzed.
