Relationship between emotional intelligence and psychological adjustment in a sample of secondary school students

The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has generated an extensive number of investigations in different contexts. Health has been a central issue in a large number of these empirical studies. In accordance with the initial approach and the latter characterization of research, there seems to be a close relationship between EI and both physical and psychological health. The aim of this work is to examine the interactions between EI and several variables indicative of mental health, personal welfare, and life satisfaction in a group of teenagers. For this purpose, we have applied different assessment instruments, obtaining the corresponding statistical parameters and correlation indices. Results reveal a positive relationship between perceived emotional intelligence (PEI) arid several health and well-being indicators, as well as a negative relationship between PEI and psychological disorders, such as depression or anxiety.
