Mestre Navas AU - Rocío Guil Bozal AB - According to Mayer and Salovey (1997), for identify the new intelligence within the psychology we must to do: (a) to define it, (b) to develop a mean for measuring it, (c) to document its partial or complete independence from known intelligences, and (d) to demonstrate that it predicts some real-world criteria. This paper is focused in both third and fourth steps. So we present two studies. First study, we realize correlations between several measures of emotional intelligence (EI), IQ and five Factor Model of personality. The outcomes confirm that only with performance measure of EI, this is independent of personality measures and IQ. Second study is an EI predictive validity by means of analysis of regression, differentiating for males and females, under objective criteria of school adaptation (frequency of conflictive behaviors at school, academic achievement and the number of times that a scholar has been elected as good peer).
