Lozano AB - This study examines the adaptation and validation of the emotional intelligence questionnaire, Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EII) to the Spanish school population, including its translation, transcultural adaptation and the study of its psychometric properties (reliability, criteria validity with depression and concurrent validity). The EII was developed by Tapia (2001), originally in English, to measure the dimensions of emotional intelligence based upon Salovey and Mayer s model (1990): empathy, utilization of feelings, handling relationships and self control. Results show an adequate reliability of the EII, and its subscales; in addition, evidence suggests that, in general, high scores on the emotional intelligence questionnaire (EII) predict a lower rate of depressive symptomatology; finally, a significant relationship was found with other emotional intelligence instruments, (TMMS).
