Self-esteem is a mainstay of creation and achievement in adolescent s life project and identity. An acceptable level of self-esteem is needed for adolescents to manage successfully their objectives and goals in life. We analyse the success of the rational-emotive education treatment on self-esteem and its effect on anxiety decreasing, in comparison with relaxation. The participant group of this research is made with 93 adolescents between 12 and 14 years old. We have used the Piers-Harris Children s selfconcept Scale, a Body Attraction Scale and the Anxiety State-Trait Questionnaire. Results indicate that both rational-emotive education and relaxation treatments are effective to increase global self-esteem. With regard to differential effectiveness of the treatments used, both are equally effective on increasing selfesteem, which shows how important is during this stage to teach adolescents to use different techniques that allow them to obtain a positive and healthy self-esteem and to manage their everyday problems. Finally, we have found that there is a negative relationship between self-esteem and anxiety. a1134-7937 a2174-0437
