We lack of the traditional psychological supports and feelings of security, and, in addition to this, from this particular condition of anxiety, we have to face new risks (global, of socialised nature, and which can not be directly perceived by our senses). This paper examines how anxiety ( worry) affect the perception of this nowadays risks . The study takes part of a wider research project on Radiological Risk Perception and Communication, carried out within the IV Framework Programme of the European Union. This was the first research carried out in our country with a random and representative sample (n = 989) of the Spanish population. The classification of our sample according to anxiety ( worry) yielded systematic significant differences in personal risk perception and, to a lesser degree, in trust in authorities. No significant differences were found for the self- protection capability. This particular relation between anxiety and risk perception should be further analysed in the framework of the risk society. a1134-7937 a2174-0437
